There are these little explorative moments in life that drop you to the depths of your psyche. Those moments deemed "character building" or rather you finding out what you're made of. Within that exploration becomes the bigger task of viewing what you find with compassion and dispassion simultaneously. To see yourself for all your shortcomings and encourage your strengths to make the leap to balance. That's the journey of human existence. To feel and not be overwhelmed by emotion or to allow yourself to be submerged and find the will to strike back up for air. Hair soaked and panting. For all the set backs there's the satisfaction of resiliency. As there are few products marketed without a seal of 'time tested and approved' and the more the trials, typically the better the product.
Though we hardly see it that way during our trials, those that don't discard themselves often feel vetted and free. There's that bit of honor walking back to shore having survived a big wave. The more we learn about ourselves the deeper we connect with others having done the same. Surface conversation drifts and blends with silence. As in the end small talk isn't really saying... anything. And the opportunity to not waste breath having known what it's like to struggle for it, becomes an opportunity taken. The stares and eye contact filled with scans of intention weed out the clutter and the words of the heart shine through like a comet breaking the surface and leaving a crater in its wake. Life becomes true or wasteful. Rich or nonexistent. Whole or... working towards it, as the process of evolution has proven its worth.
